Sickle cell disease is not just one disease. The term "sickle cell disease" is a general term. For instance, the word "science" is just a general term. Someone could tell you, "My favorite subject is science." He/She could mean biology, chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, rocket science, life science or earth and space science. So therefore, the term "sickle cell disease" is a general word like "science".
