Hemaglobin

Dear Sickle Cell Teens,
Tonight I'm going to write about hemaglobin. "Hemaglobin" is the protein molecule in the red blood cells. It's like the oxygen in your blood. There can be levels of hemaglobin like 7.8, 9.1, and 10.2. I'll explain more in another post.

Types of Sickle Cell Disease

Dear Sickle Cell Teens,
Sickle cell disease is not just one disease. The term "sickle cell disease" is a general term. For instance, the word "science" is just a general term. Someone could tell you, "My favorite subject is science." He/She could mean biology, chemistry, physics, thermodynamics, rocket science, life science or earth and space science. So therefore, the term "sickle cell disease" is a general word like "science". Here's a link to tell you about the different types of sickle cell disease:http://www.scancainc.org/content.aspx?content=2

Red Blood Cells: Two Types

There are two types of red blood cells: the normal round ones that are flexible and pass through the veins easily, and there are the sickle cells. These ones are crescent-moon shaped and have trouble passing through veins, and they may block other red bloods cells from passing them. Here's a link for more information:Red Blood Cells: Two Types
